Dahon Boardwalk Bicycle

If commuting for you means needing a bicycle you can fold up to take with you into the office or apartment, then you’ll be interested in this Dahon Boardwalk review. This is the least expensive Dahon folding bike and looks like a great beginner commuter bike.

The Dahon Boardwalk Folding Bicycle is a single-speed folding bike with a hand brake and coaster braking system. It’s relatively large 20-inch wheels are nice for a folder and for being the cheapest Dahon folding bike available, it’s not too bad. Of course, this is Dahon, one of the biggest names in bicycles. Looking around the Internet, I see a lot of reviewers talking about this new model. Most people seem to love them for short-distance riding to work or school. At the price, though, there are some drawbacks to this one. First, as a Dahon folding bicycle, it doesn’t have all of the comforts of a large-frame, full bicycle. That is to be expected of any folder, but this one is also relatively heavy and doesn’t latch closed when folded, making it rough to carry for some reviewers. Because it’s also a Dahon single-speed bike, you won’t get too far too fast, so be realistic about how far you really are going to ride this thing regularly. With all of that, at the price, it’s a quality ride. So if you’re looking for a commuter and need it to be compactible, then the Dahon Boardwalk folding bike might be your ticket.

The frame is tubular made of high-quality steel that is hinged with steel uni-crown front forks. This bike has a single-speed drive train with a 16 tooth cog driven by a KMC Z chain. The rims are made out of an alloy and are 20” with 14g UCP spokes in across three pattern. The tires are a street hybrid that measures 20” x 1.95”. There are V-brakes mounted to the frame for both the front and back wheels. The pedals are made out of resin and are foldable. The maximum weight of the rider should not exceed 230 pounds. The bike itself only weighs 37.5 pounds and when it is folded has dimensions of 30 x 32 x 11. The frame and the handlebars are hinged to help reduce the area when the bike is being stored. To help carry items when you are riding there is a rack-mounted over the rear wheel. For those riders that live in a rain prone area, this bike has full fenders on both wheels to help channel the water away from the rider in wet conditions.

With a lightweight alloy frame, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a convenient folding system, the Schwinn Adapt 3 is easy to carry, easy to fold, and easy to store. Make biking anywhere a breeze with the bike’s nine gears, Shimano twist shifters, and Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. The Schwinn Adapt folding bike comes with full-wrap fenders and reflective sidewalls for increased visibility. This bike is more for getting to work and getting to places quickly. The pro is that it can fold which saves space and it has a rack for if you’re carrying small things and it’s pretty fast for a bike this size but the con is the nylon bag was too small for me to fit the bike in the bag (I’ve tried everything so I had to buy a new bag but I don’t know if I should return it since I don’t know), the effort getting on and off the bus without bumping into people, and not knowing the pedals can bend or how to bend it. I can’t go over everything but this is about as commuting friendly as a bike can get.

EuroMini ZiZZO Urbano 24lb Lightest Aluminum Frame Genuine Shimano 8-Speed 20 Folding Bike

All Super Light Weight Aluminum Alloy – Frame, fork, Handlebar, Stem, Seat post, Kickstand, Headset, Front & rear hub, Crankset, Chain, V-style brakes and more.Genuine Shimano Altus 8-speed Derailleur, Shimano Revo 8-Speed Grip Style Shifter, and Shimano11-32T 8-Speed Cassette Gears.

Adjustable stem adapts to riders of all sizes from under five feet to over six feet four double Wall Rims, Kenda ultra-light multi-terrain tires, high strength aluminum/plastic folding pedal and Magnet Catcher to hole folded bike together. This bike is smooth, solid, and stable. I’ve gone down some steep hills with it and I’ve exceeded 25-35 MPH and it’s just fine. It climbs nicely (but if the hill is steep, it could use a smaller front chain ring). The twist grip shift of the EuroMini ZiZZO Urbano works fine and the shifting is smooth. The magnet contraption that holds the bike together when folded broke off but that’s no great loss because it doesn’t really need it. That’s really the only problem I’ve had with this bike.

IDS Home unYOUsual U Transformer 20 Folding City

Shimano 6 speed shifter and derailleur. semi-alloy front and rear V-brake. WANDA 20″ x 1.75 tires quick-removable front handle stem. with alloy silver color cap & PVC black bell. Easy assembly and ride. Was a pretty good bike for being able to fit in your trunk, tires seemed to need to be filled a little more than usual for a bike but if it’s already in your trunk it is easy to just have a bike pump in your trunk too. Was good enough that someone else thought the just needed to have it too after I’d had it a month, and promptly stole it right off the bike rack I had it locked up on outside the building I was in.
