San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium

Established in 1914, by Colonel George W. Brackenridge, the San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium, first began with only a handful of buffalo, elk, deer, monkeys, lions, and bears, and over the years, has come to be known as one of the most comprehensive and popular zoos in Texas.

Today, the zoo houses more than 3,500 animals, which include several rare and endangered species of amphibians, birds, reptiles, and mammals. Visitors to the San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium can also browse through a number of interactive exhibits, which include Africa Live — an exciting eyelet into the unique natural habitat, animals, and ecosystem of this continent, The Cranes of the World exhibit which features the rare whooping, blue, Manchurian and hooded species, while also the Reptile House, which is must-visit for those curious about the ways and habits of these unusual animals.

The San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium also dedicate themselves to several conservation and preservation activities across the globe and also encourages visitors to chip in their efforts by way of adopting an animal or even donating funds and their goodwill towards their efforts. Your little ones can learn more about animals and the importance of preservation with the Buggy Babies program, or Nature time, which implements the philosophy of learning as fun with their hands-on learning activities and informative games. The Zoo also conducts a number of events from time to time like the Annual Zoo Run and the Zoo Ball, details of which are regularly updated on their website.

Visitors are welcomed at the Zoo from 9 am to 6 pm, all through the week in the summer months, and 9 am to 5 pm in winter. Admission is priced reasonably, with special discounts for members, seniors, and children.
